Broadway on a Budget featuring Broadway Sacramento & The Drowsy Chaperone!

Full Disclosure: This post is in partnership with Broadway Sacramento. All opinions are my own.

Born to Perform

I’ve been a lover of the theatre & musicals as far as I can remember. My earliest loves were Annie & Bugsy Malone. I’d rent them on repeat at the Video Craft down the street (think Blockbuster, but local) when my mom would take me as a little girl.

As I got older, Grease, Singing In The Rain, and White Christmas were added to my personal favorites. My teen heartthrob was Gene Kelley and I’d fight anyone who questioned his charm! (Not physically of course, but a heated debate would often ensue!)

In middle & highschool I took as many performing arts classes as I could- children’s theatre, drama, dance, choir. I couldn’t get enough! As an adult my husband and I love going to shows together- Lion King & CHICAGO were sensational.

Needless to say, that passion runs deep. So when Julie Gallaher reached out to me and asked if I’d like to attend a blogger party at Broadway Sacramento for the dress rehearsal of the Tony Award winning musical The Drowsy Chaperone, I jumped at the chance!

The Party

I brought my sister as my plus 1 to the event and we were greeted by Julie, who I had been corresponding with via email for a couple of weeks. It was so great to meet her! What a wonderful, warm, and positive energy she brings!

We received our tickets and entered the pavillion for a brief informative chat with Julie, Sara Hanson- marketing director of Broadway Sacramento, and Chris Arena- social media / digital coordinator of Broadway Sacramento.

They shared with us the history of the Music Circus – which actually started as a TENT theatre in 1951, and also some great money saving tips that I can’t wait to share with you!

After the chat there was a raffle drawing, and then we were encouraged to mingle. Snacks and wine were also provided. I was happy to see some of my friends and meet some that I’ve been friends with for a while on Instagram but hadn’t yet met in person!

The Drowsy Chaperone

I admit, I hadn’t heard of this show before, but my sister was extatic when I asked her to come with me! After seeing the show, now I know why! It was insanely funny and the cast was incredible! I highly recommend seeing this show if you get the chance!

The Synopsis

(Credit for photos below: Broadway Sacramento )

The Broadway obsessed Man in Chair shares his love of The Drowsy Chaperone, and it’s ability to cure him from his moments of sadness. As he putters around his old apartment sharing the history of the fictional play, the musical suddenly comes to life as the actors appear in his home.

A hilarious story unfolds around world class showgirl Janet Van de Graaff and oil tycoon Robert Martin on the day of their wedding.

Comedian Bruce Vilanch (who I LOVED watching on Hollywood Squares) is hilarious in his role as Man in Chair, Lynne Wintersteller as the Drowsy Chaperone is insanely funny, and Kayleigh Cronin wows the audience with her performance and vocal talent as Janet Van De Graff! Other notable performances can be seen by Matt Loehr as Robert Martin and Bradley Dean as Adolpho ( I think he was a crowd favorite! SO funny!). EVERY actor in this show is incredibly talented and funny, and the theatre in the round experience is something so special, with the actors coming in and out through the aisles.
